Welcome to the website of the North County Group (NCG) of the Sierra Club San Diego.
It is our hope that through out site people will learn about the outings and activities of the NCG as well as those of the Sierra Club San Diego and other local conservation groups.
Since 1971 the North County Group has run a Wilderness Basics Course (WBC) and has taught thousands of people how to safely enjoy hiking and backpacking in the backcountry. Many of those students go on to plan challenging hikes (link) with their new found skills. Some enjoy the course so much they decide to go through training to become a Chapter Outings Leader and volunteer to lead hikes and assist with WBC.
Several years ago, the North County Group started a Scholarship program available to students at Mira Costa and Palomar Colleges to assist students that are pursuing an education and career in an environmental, conservation, or sustainability related field. Read about some of our scholarship recipients here and here.
Over the last few years the North County Group has awarded Conservation Grants to North San Diego County organizations that conserve and manage open space and endangered species habitat, or support hiking and the enjoyment of the outdoors.
Our Fall Meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at Escondido City Hall. Join us!
We hope that you enjoy our site and check back often as we continue to grow.
Happy Trails!
