NCG Fall Meeting
October 12, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
FreeBackpacking in Our National Parks
Each year, millions of people visit our National Parks. Most of them arrive by car or bus to view and photograph the grand vistas and colorful landscapes created by Mother Nature. But there are a smaller number of people that travel through these magnificent landscapes and get to experience a truly spiritual and emotional journey like none other. Starla Rivers, Outings Chair for the Sierra Club San Diego, will share some of the backpacking journeys she has taken through a number of our National Parks, including the Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Sequoia, and Death Valley.
Our second speaker is Richard Halsey, Director of the California Chaparral Institute, who has given more than 400 presentations and written numerous papers and articles over the past ten years about California’s most extensive, native plant community. He will talk to us about chaparral ecology and how communities can adapt to fire-prone environments
The meeting is open to the public. There will be time to socialize with other Sierra Club members and refreshments will be served. We hope to see you there!
