Here’s an important action alert from one of our allies the Chaparral Institute about protecting our forests and chaparral. TIME SENSITIVE so please take action now and help us get the word out!
ALERT! You can take action now to protect Nature.
This coming Tuesday, the California Legislature’s Conference Committee on Wildfire Preparedness and Response is holding a hearing.
The biomass, logging, grazing, and fire industries are heavily lobbying for massive programs to promote their special interests – i.e. prescribed burning, biomass plants, clearance operations, logging.
The push is to do something to get rid of the “fuel” (i.e. Nature). There is little interest or concern at this time about doing what the science says or creating fire safe communities.
Bills are being written. They will be introduced at the end of the current session (August 31). The comment period will be three days. The legislature will then vote.
What we need to do before Tuesday (8/14):
- Spread the word. Share this email.
- Please contact the committee members below to contradict and oppose these special interests’ versions of reality – including falsehoods such as biomass burning is carbon neutral, logging will prevent wildfires, prescribed burning chaparral will protect the environment and communities, shrublands are dangerous and should be removed, etc.
All committee members have already received a hard copy of our letter about how best to reduce wildfire risk, available at this link:

Feel free to copy what you want. But remember, we need to counter what the vested interests are saying with BULLET POINTS. Keep it simple in your email to the committee members.
Here are the Committee members and their contact emails.
