Environmental Justice in Escondido Needs Your Support!

Escondido is working on its first-ever Environmental Justice Element. The Escondido Planning Commission is holding a hearing to take public input and to give direction to staff.

Let the Planning Commission know you SUPPORT a strong and protective Environmental Justice Element (EJE). The EJE should:

1. Ensure that impacted residents have a voice in decision-making and that regular commissions or working groups be established for key issue areas related to environmental justice.
2. Address the gross disparities in access to parks and greenspaces for environmental justice communities.
3. Include ALL relevant policies from the Escondido Climate Action Plan and the Housing Element.
4. Include proactive policies on Climate Equity and protection of the most vulnerable residents from the worst impacts of climate change.
5. Include policies that address health disparities in the most vulnerable communities and avoid unsafe locations for new housing.
6. Include ALL relevant policies from the Escondido Climate Action Plan and the Housing Element.
7. Reinforce and include policies for Transportation Justice such as increasing access to transit and safe walk and bikeways.
8. Address food justice such as ensuring access to quality, healthy food for all residents and increased ability for home-based food production.
