Escondido Members: Share your Priorities and Values with City Council

March 24, 2022 – By Laura Hunter Leave a Comment

Here is a great opportunity to weigh in on Escondido priorities conversation

Go to this link and fill out what you want the city to prioritize. https://lp.constantcontactpages.com/sv/j60vacl/discussion  If the link doesn’t work, email Michael Thorne, Communications Director, at mthorne@escondido.org

This survey is a great opportunity to let the Council know what you think.  Here are just a few ideas that NCG, allies, and others have raised with the city include the following:

  • Strong opposition to sprawl development and Harvest Hills
  • Support transit-oriented development and more transit in and around the city
  • Request for rapid implementation of the city’s Climate Action Plan
  • Fast-track tree planting especially in ‘heat-island’ areas to reduce heat impacts using native species or edible fruit trees
  • Single use plastics phase out and ban
  • Support restoration of Escondido Creek as a natural resource and improvement in local residents quality of life
  • Facilitation and support residents to grown their own food for families and others and address food insecurity
  • More support for management and protection of Daley Ranch open space preserve
  • Strong support for recreation, parks, and urban greening
  • Phased plan for energy efficiency and electrification retrofits of private and public sector buildings
  • Focus and action on affordable and moderate cost housing
  • Promotion of good-paying, green jobs
  • Create employment opportunities for youth
  • Strong environmental health and justice actions
  • Adopt policies to support more planting of native plants
  • Support wildlife habitat and corridor protection in and around the city

To the extent you support these and other environment and health priorities, please let the Council know through this survey!  Also, help us spread the word

Erin Hagen – Scholarship Recipient Letter

So, Sierra Club, thank you for helping me in my continuing quest. There are a lot of expenses in juggling a job, school, and a teenage daughter still at home. This scholarship will really help ease my mind for this coming semester. I am very touched and honored that I am receiving this scholarship.
