A very important meeting will be held in front of the County Planning Commission on January 18 to take public testimony on the County’s Climate Action Plan. This is a hugely important plan and it still needs much improvement if we are ever to effectively combat the life-ending impacts of climate change. Sierra Club has litigated on this issue and the Club and our members have written many letters. Please come to the County Planning Commission meeting if you can.
January 18, 9 AM
County Operation Center: Conference Center
It will be important to have many people testify and support the following:
- County CAP must address and develop a plan to SIGNIFICANTLY reduce Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT)
- The County must not allow significant off-site, out-of county off-sets.
- Development proposals that require annexation and General Plan Amendments should not be allowed until emission reduction goals in the General Plan have been met.
Here is the info from the invitation:
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The project is the development of a Climate Action Plan (CAP) that will include measures and actions to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the unincorporated County in proportion to the State’s emission reduction goals. The Environmental Impact Report (EIR) provides a program-level analysis of the CAP, its measures, and related actions. It is prepared as a Supplement to the 2011 General Plan Update (2011 GPU) Program EIR and evaluates the CAP, proposed amendments to General Plan Goal Conservation and Open Space (COS) COS-20 and Policy COS-20.1, and proposed revisions to 2011 GPU Program EIR Mitigation Measures (Climate Change) CC-1.2, CC-1.7, and CC-1.8. At this hearing, the Planning Commission will make recommendations to the Board of Supervisors on the County’s CAP.
Please visit the County CAP website for additional information. The CAP public website has been established as a resource to the public and provides links to previously published CAP project documents. PC material for the January 18th hearing is anticipated to be available on January 8, 2018 through the Planning Commission website.
