Sierra Club, Urban Corps of San Diego, and the city of Escondido are working together to pilot test an effort to get more trees planted in urban areas. Urban Corps members will be talking to residents about trees and offering free tree plantings in Escondido. Sierra Club members and others interested in more tree planting in urban areas are invited to join the Corps members every Saturday from Sept 17 to November 5th for a 2 hour session. Kids with an accompanying adult are invited!
Each team will have both English and Spanish speakers and will include an Urban Corps member. All materials will be provided. We will be signing residents up for trees which will be planted in the winter—the best time for planting.
We think that talking directly to residents can educate about the benefits of trees and answer any questions or concerns they might have. Sierra Club will share bilingual materials on planting trees at home and other climate actions individuals can take to increase resilience and reduce climate warming emissions.
This is an important pilot project which, if successful, can be replicated throughout North County.
Let’s bring more trees to North County!
