Escondido will be undertaking an important update effort to the Escondido General Plan. Significantly, the city will be creating its first ever Environmental Justice Element. This is a key element to recognize and make plans to address significant injustices present in our community.
The update to the Community Safety Element is also very important. This is the element that address policies around fire risks, evacuation, flooding, intense heat events etc…all of which are expected to worsen in our climate changing environment.
NCG Conservation Committee filed this letter of comments on the Draft outreach plan.
Please contact the city and get on the interested persons list for one or both of these elements if you are interested.
Here are additional links from the city last week.
The draft community outreach and engagement plan is now available for review and public comment. Staff encourages you to distribute the draft plan through your networks in an effort to obtain widespread feedback on the plan’s content. Comments can be provided via email or by phone at the contact information below, through the 2022 General Plan Amendment webpage, as well as at the City’s Planning Commission this coming Tuesday, February 22nd at 7 PM. Staff is working on translating the document into Spanish. Once a Spanish draft is available, it will be posted to the project webpage, and circulated via email.
The City of Escondido is beginning the process of amending the City’s General Plan by updating the Community Protection chapter and creating a new chapter on environmental justice. For more background information, visit the 2022 General Plan Amendment’s webpage, or please contact me directly at the information below.
I am also available if you have any questions. Have a great rest of your week!
