An additional letter filed April 19, 2021 outlined two key areas of improvement needed in the Housing Element, an inclusionary housing ordinance and distance buffers from freeways to protect human health. Future letters to follow.
The draft Escondido Housing Element and the East Valley Specific Plan Update will be discussed a series of meetings of the Planning Commission. The next will be April 27 to discuss programs and policies of the draft Housing Element. The city council created a Housing Ad-Hoc Committee of Councilmembers Garcia and Martinez. We are hopeful they will support strong action for affordable housing and urban infill in the city.
Sierra Club NCG has been a very active proponent of reforms to how Escondido develops and redevelops within the city. Here are links to the comments we have filed.
We encourage all members to email the full Council and let them know you support affordable housing programs and ordinances that will guarantee development of housing for residents who need it most and in locations served by transit.
