Sierra Club NCG is a strong supporter of an appropriate, higher-density urban infill project in this signature location in the heart of Escondido. We know we must densify our urban and transportation corridors if we are to effectively address the climate crisis. Further, we must provide housing products for a range of income levels.
However, the proposed Palomar Heights 510-unit townhome project is deficient for what the city needs. Sierra Club is opposed to this project because it is not dense enough and, given the perfect location for a transit-oriented development, a larger project should be demanded– at least of 900-1,000 units with a significant percent of affordable housing.
The Partnership for Downtown Escondido is also opposing this project. Check out their website here.
Please write the Mayor and Council and urge their NO vote on Palomar Heights. Email Mayor and Council here.
